Coconut Tree West Bay

The one thing going for it is the spot at the far end of West Bay, close to the beach. Otherwise, this place is a dump, and the photos are clever marketing. There was no hot water, no mini fridge, and no amenities. The bed felt like one they’d picked up off the side of the road.

We booked for five, expecting what looked online like a two-room place, but all the beds were together in one room. When we arrived, the pool was closed for renovations, and nobody had let us know. There was no reception, no real lobby, no people, and all the lights were off. The keys had been left with a beach security guard who didn’t work there and had no idea what was going on. We called the number but never heard back. Even the beer was warm, so we couldn’t have one.

The beach location is great, right on the water, and the rooms were clean. The staff were friendly, although at check-in they tried to charge us again for a room we’d already paid for. The rooms are a bit worn: some broken windows have had duct tape on them so long it doesn’t stick anymore. We also had no hot water for the shower.

The beach and surrounding nature were the best parts. Our room was decent, but flying ants came at the AC at night and bit us. We had no internet, and the workers seemed uncomfortable giving out the Wi-Fi password or more toilet paper. There was no hot water, and the water in our room tasted salty, so our showers were cold and salty too. The restaurant was okay but pricey. Not sure, the whole thing kind of felt like a tourist trap.
