We came for a quiet, relaxing stay, not for diving, which apparently surprised the staff and other guests since diving seems to be the main reason most people visit. That worked out nicely for us: the beach and pool felt less crowded. We loved the spa and the gorgeous view from room 31, and the staff were spectacular. They even fit us in for an extra night at short notice when our flight home was cancelled. We did go snorkeling, and it was a wonderful experience. We highly recommend AKR.

The food and service were among the best I've had in 25 years of diving. I was unsure about having a menu instead of the usual buffet, but the variety was excellent and the portions were more than I could finish, even though I tried. Michele and I will definitely return to Anthony's Key Resort, which now feels special to us because of the way the team treated us like family. Our trip started rainy and our flight home was cancelled because of DFW weather, but the staff turned a difficult few days into a highlight. The dive masters took us across the island to find clear water. During the delay, the front office upgraded us to a Key Deluxe room, and they let us dive for three extra days to make up for the weather-related time we lost. The beautiful dives were part of what made the trip memorable too.

When we return to Roatan, we want to stay here again. The diving setup and logistics are top notch, and the place has everything we wanted, including a nice pool, private beach, restaurant and bar. Its location is unusual in a lovely way: some rooms are on a small sandy island, while the rest sit in a rainforest on a hill. Both settings are beautiful. It's a gem!

We didn't stay at the resort, but booked its Dolphin Swim and Snorkel excursion through our NCL cruise. Trainer Jason and Sandy the dolphin were both fantastic, and the outing includes a close interaction as well as an open swim. They take professional photos, and we were also allowed to take some of our own. What stood out was how thoughtfully the staff treat the dolphins. They can leave the beautiful Bailey's Key preserve for the ocean and return on their own, and they aren't made to perform when they're not in the mood. The grounds are gorgeous, the dolphins are amazing, and you might even meet one of the cute resort cats. If you get the chance to book this excursion, do it. It's a must-do in Roatan.

The diving was worth it even with heavy rain during the first couple of days and choppy water. The boats are amazing, and the crew helps with everything. Do listen to your Divemaster and stay involved: I saw a diver blow through safety stops and get shut down. Your safety matters, so don't just assume you know what to do. A trip here at AKR is a trip of a lifetime. The rooms are clean, well cared for and spacious, with lovely decks and hammocks. You could easily nod off in one. At check-in they take your bags to your bungalow, whether it's on the overlook or the island, and you bring your diving gear to the locker room, which has a lock and key. The staff will get you what you need, even if you forgot it, and everyone seems eager to please. Meals are ordered from a menu rather than served buffet style, with most things you might want available. Get to know the person serving you and take care of them. Having stayed at other all-inclusive resorts, I found Anthony's Key Resort really unbelievable.
