Aparthotel Villa Nuria

The pool is a nice size, and the place still feels clean and safe, with useful shuttles to the airport and bus terminal. But the standard has slipped over the past few years. Breakfast is no longer free, the apartment kitchen isn't properly equipped, and the place could use an update. There's air conditioning in the living room, but not the bedrooms.

The restaurant was pretty good, and for the cost we felt we got a well equipped place for a week. The value is in the guest's favor. Our room was a little run down, though. One thing to know is that the complex is open to the public for a cover charge, with kids under 5 admitted free.

The only reason we've returned over the past six years is how close it is to the airport, especially since you never know when a protest might break out. Each visit has been worse, and this time was enough for me: I'll never stay here again. The service is terrible, and they now ask you to leave your key with them when you go out, even with all your things still in the room. The restaurant is a grease bucket and none of the food is good. The pool was dirty, with tiles coming loose. In the room, the air conditioner seemed about to fall apart, ants and other bugs kept getting in, the shower looked dirty, blinds were missing, some window glass slats were broken, the outlets didn't work, and the laminate floor was chipping and coming apart. If you want a relaxing, stress free stay in San pedro, this is not the place.

I plan to come back on my next visit. The price is great, and there are plenty of staff who are eager to help make the stay a good one. It's an affordable option compared with chain hotels closer to downtown. The amenities are extensive but simple: pools for different areas, a poolside bar, a quaint restaurant, and basic health and toiletry products in the office.
