What an unbelievable experience. We’ve asked every year about bringing our dog, and the owner’s answer kept changing. The first time, she said she didn’t accept dogs at all. After we asked again, she suddenly said dogs were allowed in one of the houses, but only on a date she couldn’t fill. The following year it was no at first, then yes, but only in a room for two, even though she may have known we were four people and a dog. It felt unfair. Although both apartment buildings are by one of Croatia’s largest dog beaches, she doesn’t make room for guests with dogs. In general, we found her unfriendly, with none of the Croatian hospitality people talk about. It seems she relies on the attractive apartments and location, without needing to be helpful or welcoming to people looking for accommodation or staying there. I understand that some owners may not want a fighting dog or a large breed in their home, but small dogs shouldn’t necessarily be a problem. In Western Europe, people can often stay with small dogs, and even large ones, in apartments and luxury hotels without having to fight for it. Her attitude makes you wonder whether she sees herself as belonging in the East or the West.
