Camping Glavotok

The beaches are lovely, and before noon they were nearly empty. The pool is nice too, though there were so many children that it wasn’t possible to relax there. We had a beautiful view, and the showers and toilets were clean. We spent two days at this really nice camp in a larger camper van. The neighbors were quiet, and even when we had to move after the first day because of our own check-in mistake, the staff handled it professionally.

For 165 euros a night for 3 adults and 1 child, we expected a much better seaside pitch. The first spot assigned to our caravan was far too small, something we’d never encountered in 25 years. Thick bushes taller than me blocked the sea, and the tap and electricity were outside the pitch, behind them. I’m 192, so the lack of a view was obvious. After an hour we could move. The second spot was a little bigger, but only just fit the caravan, with no room for the car. It had water and electricity on site but no place for waste water. Securing the awning was difficult, though at least we could see the sea. There are some lovely, normally sized pitches by the water, but most aren’t like that, so bear it in mind given the price. The campsite itself is lovely and kept very clean. The old shower cubicle is really old, while the new one is often crowded. We love swimming and snorkeling here, and saw dolphins, lots of fish, and octopus. The bakery is good and has long opening hours; the supermarket is very small. We didn’t use the restaurant.

The staff were all friendly and helpful, and spoke English. The campsite is right by the sea, beautifully maintained, and clean. The shower blocks were spotless, and the underfloor heating in the showers was wonderful on a cool October evening.

We’ve stayed at Camping Glavotok several times because it’s in such an idyllic spot on the island of Krk, with a view of Rijeka, and the children have a lot of fun there. Still, after this visit we’re disappointed with the service as longtime guests. Our VIP pitch was behind a tall hedge. It had been trimmed a little at the top, but sitting down we couldn’t see the sea, and the children couldn’t see it even standing. We had to go on tiptoes for a decent view, as the photos show. The pitch was also right beside the boat access road, so we often heard loud car engines and wheels, along with boats squeaking early in the morning and in the evening. We asked several times to move, but they couldn’t accommodate us. After we complained, we did get a €45 discount for the week, but that was less than 5% of the total and nowhere near compensating for the extra VIP cost. I recommend checking in advance that a pitch really is close to the sea and has an open view. The central sanitary facilities have been renovated, though the sinks are too low for taller people to wash dishes without bending badly. In the individual bath cabins, the ceiling light is only in the center, making it hard to see your face in the mirror. There also aren’t enough facilities, so at busy times there are queues for both toilets and showers. These are minor issues beside the pitch problem, but they added to our disappointment.
