A lovely host and a beautiful spot.

The terrace is the best part, with a little table and two chairs overlooking Gruz Harbor. The sunsets are breathtaking, and the landlady was incredibly sweet and helpful. Just be ready for lots of stairs. They’re tiring, but worth it. The apartment is well kept and extremely clean. It has an entrance area, a mini living room with a pull-out couch, a dining table with two chairs, and a small kitchen with a stove, fridge, kettle, and microwave. Everything you need is there. The medium-sized bedroom has two beds, two bedside tables, and a spacious wardrobe. From Dubrovnik Airport, a white shuttle bus to the Gruz bus station costs €15 per person. You can buy a ticket at the airport exit, and the ride takes about 40 minutes. The trip is quite an experience, with the sea on your right and a route that goes partly through the old town, so you get a glimpse of what’s ahead. From the bus station, it’s about a 20-minute walk, including roughly 10 minutes climbing stairs. If you have big suitcases, take a taxi.

Daria was a huge help during our week here. She gave us advice, brought us juice, supplied four tickets for the 10-minute bus ride to the Old Town, lent us luggage scales, and helped when the internet kept dropping out. Thank you, Daria, and thank you, Dubrovnik! The stylish apartment has two rooms, a small garden, and views of Dubrovnik’s port. The bedroom has a double bed, wardrobe, and bedside tables with lamps. The hall and kitchenette share a space, with an electric stove, microwave, large fridge, kettle, dishes, and dishwashing supplies. There are towels too, and the bathroom has a comfortable washbasin, shower, and toilet. Sunset beach is about a pleasant 30-minute walk away. These were comfortable, affordable apartments, and I’d recommend them.

Less than a week after I booked, the reservation was canceled with the explanation that “the room is unsafe.” I’d booked well ahead to get a good price, but then had just five days to find somewhere else, and the replacement cost more.
