Buža Apartment

The parking spot couldn't fit our car, and the booking description didn't mention any size limits. On arrival, the owner's mother, who spoke no English, first directed us to a private school's parking lot, where we could have received a ticket from local police. She eventually showed us another spot, but was reluctant to pay for the ticket and rude when we tried to call the owner, telling us not to because he was busy. The owner also wanted us to leave without paying and said he'd cover the ticket at checkout. It all felt shady. After a lot of back and forth, his mother paid. We were also promised a taxi or Uber to the apartment, but his mother resisted paying for that too. She eventually did after more arguing. On checkout day, when we asked how to book a taxi and how he would pay for it, the owner's rude, sarcastic message felt threatening. After we left, he sent another message that sounded like a threat. He was incredibly unhelpful and rude throughout. The experience was very unpleasant, with the worst customer service, and I wouldn't recommend staying here. Stay away and look for somewhere better.

The apartment itself wasn't the problem. The issues were all with the owner and his mother, who handled check-in while he was away. She didn't speak English, discouraged us from contacting him because he was busy, and seemed unwilling to pay for alternative parking. The space he'd arranged was a small garage, and our roof trunk meant we couldn't fit. The booking hadn't mentioned that limitation. We lost over an hour sorting out parking instead of getting to the old town, and couldn't check in on time. After a lot of back and forth, she finally agreed to pay for the alternative spot. Our booking and the owner's message had also promised an Uber X to the old town. His mother again resisted paying for the ride, then eventually did after more debate and wasted time. It made the start of our one-night stay in Dubrovnik bitter. On checkout day, I asked on WhatsApp whether he'd cover a taxi back to our car. He replied that we'd leave the apartment at 11:30, call an Uber or taxi whenever we wanted, and pay for it ourselves. It came across as rude and sarcastic, and meant spending money we hadn't planned on. Later that day, he messaged me calling us the worst and most irritating guests he'd had in ten years, and said we were lucky his mother... It felt like a threat on top of everything else. I strongly advise against booking this place. The owner was toxic, unhelpful, and simply impolite. There are plenty of other places in Dubrovnik's old town where guests can get the respect and treatment they deserve.

There are lots of steps up to the apartment, plus a small spiral staircase inside. The apartment is spread over four floors.
