Dubrovnik Residence Nodilo

We left after one night because the place was so bad, and lost the money for the nights we didn’t use. The bathroom was the worst part: tiny and badly mouldy, across the shared hall from an extremely cramped room. The listing pictures show the whole place, not the room you actually get. They require cash, likely to make it harder to dispute the payment with your credit card company. Check the photos for evidence of mould. For $20 more a night, you could stay in a beautiful place in the actual old town. This is about as close to a scam as it gets.

We booked last minute and paid a pretty high price, but what we got was an old apartment converted into accommodation. Expedia lists it as a 4 star hotel. Our room was so small it could barely fit one bed, with the toilets and washrooms out in the shared corridor. It was the worst place we stayed on the trip. The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is that the woman who showed us the room was nice. If you want somewhere nice to stay, look elsewhere.

We booked at short notice after a nightmare with our previous accommodation, and the owner was lovely. She spoke brilliant English and gave us a really detailed rundown of the city and how things worked, which we appreciated. The place has three rooms with their matching bathrooms; ours was clean and nice, though the shower head was a little loose. We managed fine. Breakfast wasn’t included, but she told us where to get it cheaply. The apartment is five minutes from the beach and ten from the old town. As I write this, I’m on the beach looking at the old town 500 metres to my right. It’s a lovely place to stay, and you won’t be disappointed.

Three stars for three things: the amazing view, the really nice host, and being so close to the beach. The room was clean, but don’t mistake this for a hotel or a “residence” because of the photos. It’s a room in a converted apartment, with no pool and no breakfast in bed. The window doesn’t shut properly, and the TV looks like it came from another world.
