The owner was welcoming at first, offering us a cold drink and advice about getting around the city. It’s quiet and fairly central, but the shared bathroom’s one small boiler had to serve us, another guest, and the host family. After the first day it kept switching off, so we ended up with cold showers. We couldn’t find the owner to ask about another option, and we wanted to go out, not wait around for a shower. There’s no air conditioning, which we hadn’t noticed when booking, and no mosquito nets; we left covered in bites. Don’t recommend it at all.

We had a beautiful, clean room with free Wi-Fi and bottled water. Good restaurants and a supermarket are less than five minutes away, and it’s under ten minutes to Sunset beach. Old town is about 25 minutes away. The location gave us a great chance to experience Dubrovnik authentically, and the host was amazing. I’ll definitely come back!

We barely slept on the first night because of the summer heat. It was 35 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit), and there was no fan or air conditioning. When we asked Ruza for a fan, she yelled at us to open the window. We explained that the noise kept us awake and mosquitoes were getting in, but she denied both the noise and the mosquitoes. The room had an old, uncomfortable, creaky bed, and the bathroom window opened onto the hallway, so there was no privacy. We complained to Booking.com because a fan was listed among the amenities. Apparently Ruza was unhappy about that: she came out shouting that we should leave or she’d call the police. We’d booked another night, but had to go while she was still yelling. She slammed the door in our faces and continued shouting from inside. The worst place I’ve ever stayed. Ruza is clearly an unstable person.
