Guesthouse Biba

The terrace is a nice place to sit with a book and look over Dubrovnik’s old town, and the rates seemed reasonable for the city. The guest house is right by the cable car and airport bus pickup, with cheaper restaurants and grocery shops nearby. My room was spacious and comfortable, but the WiFi was unreliable for me. During my three-day stay, the room wasn’t cleaned, the bins weren’t emptied and the towels weren’t changed. There was also a lot of traffic noise and noise from kids.

The owners and their family were warm and helpful, and we really enjoyed having our own private terrace. The bedroom itself was good, though the air conditioner struggled and the room sometimes stayed warm. It was still cooler than outside. The ensuite bathroom is tiny, and the hot water system makes it so hot in there that we ended up taking cold showers. We hadn’t realized how many stairs there’d be, but the location is great: across from the cable car, 5-10 minutes from the heart of the old town, and a six-minute walk to the nearest beach. If you’re looking for a beautifully decorated, posh place, this probably isn’t it. But we felt at home here, and mama’s kindness made it the best accommodation of our two weeks in Croatia. She doesn’t speak much English, but that didn’t matter to us or the other guests. Her hospitality was outstanding, and we felt like family rather than paying guests. After checkout we left our bags behind. When we came back, the owner was there too, and they offered us coffee and biscuits. We could sit on their veranda for as long as we liked, and they were happy to help with anything. Thank you Biba for such a lovely end to a brilliant two weeks in Croatia.

There’s a communal balcony with lovely views over the old town and cable car station, though it can get a little noisy. The apartments have what you need to cook, and the beach, shops and old town are all close by. Great stay!
