Hotel Excelsior

The room was beautiful, and its fantastic view made our stay at Hotel Excelsior Dubrovnik feel special. Staff greeted us warmly and were attentive throughout. We also really enjoyed dining there. Chef Markos made a remarkable mushroom omelette and French toast, the highlights of breakfast, and his friendly, cheerful manner made them even more memorable. The waiters and waitresses were all polite, friendly, and attentive. We had a wonderful stay and will definitely be back.

We only booked one night while traveling through different countries and cities with my girlfriends, and I wish we could have stayed longer. Devi at concierge/front desk and Zelian were especially helpful and made sure we were comfortable. Zelian showed us around the hotel and greeted us in our native language. The view and decor were stunning, and our room was great, with a lovely balcony and outdoor seating. It was very convenient to walk to old town. Parking and breakfast were included, which was nice. I definitely recommend it and plan to come back.

Excelsior cancelled my confirmed reservation just one week before the trip, which was incredibly stressful, especially for Dubrovnik, where hotels fill quickly. Their proposed fix was a sister hotel rated 4 stars and costing roughly half of what I’d paid for the 5-star booking. That clearly felt like an inferior replacement, not an acceptable alternative. I booked Rixos Premium Dubrovnik instead, and it turned out spectacular, with outstanding service and the luxury experience I expected. So, ironically, the cancellation led me to a far better hotel. Still, the way Excelsior handled it showed a serious lack of professionalism and reliability. If you want peace of mind for your trip, I’d strongly reconsider booking here.

The room was unbearably hot because the bathroom heater was running, and there was no way to switch it off. The desk staff first said they’d turn it off, then said it couldn’t be turned off and told us to open the windows for cool air. After that, the room got too cold with the windows open. The thermostat went up to 25c, but would only go lower and then wouldn’t go back up. I ended up stuffing a towel into the heater, which helped. I had to haul my luggage back and forth and up and down steps several times to speak with staff. After three back surgeries, that was especially hard, and the hotel has no ramps for rolling bags. Staff kept telling me what I wanted to hear without fixing the problems, and showed no care at all. It seemed like they only cared about getting our money. This was booked by GLOBUS. Do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere. There are lots of other lodging options. Again, GLOBUS booked this hotel.
