Lav Hostel & Café

The location is the big draw at Lav Hostel & Cafe. You're right in the heart of the Old Town, on the flat part, so there's no need to climb loads of stone steps. It's also cheaper than most other Old Town options. I had a good stay and would probably come back, especially for the location. Being able to leave my bags there for a few hours before and after my stay was really handy. This place is mainly for sleeping rather than hanging out, which was fine for me. I didn't see a shared or public room, just the sleeping room and bathroom. There wasn't a shower curtain, so the floor got wet. It would be helpful to add one to keep it drier for guests. The host was friendly, though I only saw him at check-in and check-out, and I think he also works at the restaurant.

A great little place in Dubrovnik, and the location is easily its best feature. The toilet door doesn't lock, and the showers have no curtains, but with the door closed people know someone's inside. The entrance door is always unlocked and guests aren't given keys, though it seemed safe. You can lock your things in the room cabinets.

The rooms were nice and the location was good. There are no locks on the room doors, but the aircon was great. We had expected to pay by cash or card because that's what Hostelworld said, so we spent our cash in shops before leaving Croatia. Then we were told cards weren't accepted. They should update their Hostelworld listing if that's the case. We spoke with some girls who'd run into the same problem after doing what we did, and we had to pay extra to withdraw cash.

I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could. The location, price, and facilities were good, and there's a caffe bar/bistro just downstairs. My concerns were security and the noise from drunk tourists at night. I slept like a baby with ear plugs, so bring some if you want a good night's sleep.
