Rooms Villa Garden - Hostel

There wasn’t a receptionist, so when I arrived I couldn’t get in. Luckily, the cleaner was there and gave me the password. I suppose guests are meant to contact the hostel in advance, but they don’t provide any instructions for reaching them. The contact number is only posted once you’re inside, which is an interesting setup.

My room was pretty dirty, and there were blood stains on my towels. There was mold on the bathroom wall, though I thought that part was kind of cool.

The Wi-Fi was a problem for my whole stay. It didn’t work at all upstairs, and the downstairs signal, which peaked at 40 Mbps, couldn’t reach my room, so I relied on mobile data. I met Mr. Darko, the caretaker or manager, on my last evening. He listened sympathetically to my concerns and said they’d be fixed. The place is reasonably cheap compared with nearby options, especially given that it’s only a 5-7 minute walk from the Old Town. My room had a working fridge, clean WC, an okay bed, and lovely AC. It was clean enough, though I wouldn’t call it soothing to look at. I did find an insect on the bed when I arrived and brushed it off. The door felt flimsy, with a gap insects could crawl through, and the window shade didn’t cover the corners, so people could peek in. The neighbourhood itself was quiet, but the guests next door were noisy until midnight on the first night. They observed the 11 PM quiet time on the following nights. I knew I’d gone cheap on accommodation, so you get what you pay for. It’s a decent place if you keep your expectations in check.

The narrow pavement out front beside the busy street was the worst part. Otherwise, it’s a basic, inexpensive hostel run by Darko, who’s a really nice guy. A fine place for a few nights if you’re after a bed and don’t expect luxury.
