Hotel Splendid

The bus stop right outside is handy, and the ride to the Old Town takes around 10 or 15 minutes. Rooms are a decent size and have balconies, and there’s a beautiful beach below. The hotel feels dated, though. I was disappointed that beach chairs cost extra, and while a pool is advertised, it’s at the sister hotel and costs $20 or more to use. Look into those details before booking. I gave it four stars, though my overall feeling was closer to three and a half.

The terrace is the real highlight, with a perfect view of the sunset, though the hotel hasn’t made much of a feature of it. Live music on Fridays and Saturdays could help promote the place. The building dates from the 1950s and seems to have had few upgrades. There’s no lift, so you’ll carry your own luggage on the stairs, and staff didn’t offer to help. The restaurant buffet had the usual range of options, but the food wasn’t very appealing.

There’s no lift, so anyone with mobility limitations should ask for a ground-floor room. We found the staff attentive and glad to help, and the restaurant and outdoor bar had plenty of good food to choose from. The hotel opens onto a small beach and swimming area with its own little bar. WiFi was free and worked very well throughout. Our room was comfortable and had the basics, plus a lovely balcony with a view that was great for sitting out in the morning or evening. It wasn’t as elaborate as rooms in some hotels, but the quiet location outside Dubrovnik suited us. The number 4 bus runs along a main route into the Old Town, making the trip convenient and affordable. I’d happily stay again and recommend it to friends and family.

After we left, I realized my passport was missing and believe I may have left it at the front desk. We’d driven four hours from Dubrovnik to Split by then. Even so, I’d recommend the hotel. One bad apple shouldn’t put people off, and the stay itself was wonderful.
