Villa Flores

Our hosts were friendly and helpful, and check-in went smoothly even though our bus was delayed and we arrived later than planned. Checking out was easy too. We spent our final night in Croatia in a balcony room with beautiful views. It was clean and tidy, with soaps, beach towels, a hairdryer, kettle, coffee and tea, and a fridge-freezer. The large bed was comfortable, with plenty of pillows and blankets. The room was quiet at night despite being right in the Old Town, so we slept well. It's about 30 seconds from the main street and close to the main attractions, with lots of nice bars and restaurants around. Getting to and from the airport and main bus station was easy. I'd stay here again if I return to Dubrovnik.

We really enjoyed our stay, and it was handy being able to pop back to the apartment for a little rest whenever we wanted. The location is about as good as it gets for enjoying Dubrovnik. The apartments are in great shape, perfectly clean, well refurbished, and modern, with all the amenities we needed. The downside is the sound insulation from outside and the floors above. If you're a light sleeper, you might not sleep well, though moderate noise didn't bother us.

You can reach this Old Town spot from Pila (West) Gate without any steps, which was handy with a roller suitcase, and the location is right in the center. Our room felt like a mini suite, with a living space and kitchen. It was clean, though our apartment seemed a bit dark and dated. The beds were fairly comfortable, but street sounds and noise from other rooms came through quite a bit, and I didn't sleep that well.

On our first evening, we arrived late at the Luxury Apartment and found insects covering the only shower. The owner was absolutely fantastic when we told her the next day: she apologized, explained that the 300-year-old property had 300-year-old sewage that caused it, and said the issue had been fixed. She also left us a bottle of wine. That explanation wasn't good enough for me. The second night, both showers and the staircase were covered in the insects again. I was angry and immediately contacted the owner to say we'd move to the Hilton the next day. She apologized again and agreed to refund our stay, which she did. I don't think a property with this problem should be rented to the public. Before staying here, I'd want some kind of guarantee that it won't happen again.
