The owner was incredibly kind and offered help with everything, from carrying our bags to bringing my son warm milk when we ran out. The food downstairs was outstanding and inexpensive, and the drinks were great too. The hotel is above a pub and restaurant. We’d come back to Croatia just to stay here again. Best place to stay.

The service was good and the interior is lovely, but the food was disappointing regardless of what it costs. Prices are high compared with other restaurants in town, portions seem sized for kids, and the chicken was dry. There was barely any chicken in the pasta. The pizza dough was passable, but everything else felt like a joke. Remove a few bits of low-grade cooked bacon and you could call it vegetarian. Their idea of spicy was one mildly hot pickled pepper.

We stumbled across Rooms Šu Šu while visiting Karlovac and had a memorable stay. The owner and staff gave us a lovely welcome, and the rooms were clean. There’s a lively Saturday night party at the bar downstairs, but the walls keep nearly all the noise out, so it didn’t bother us. Karlovac itself is charming, and Plitvice lake is not too far away if you’re planning to visit the national park.
