Aminess Liburna Hotel

The hotel’s version of “meh” sums up our stay. I wanted somewhere to relax in the evening, but after the first night we stopped using the bar, then stopped going to dinner even though we’d paid for half board. The small pool area was cramped and not relaxing, and the outdoor spaces generally weren’t great. There are much nicer places to stay. We paid extra for a so-called superior room, but it looked onto waste space with some plants and felt like a basement. The view is the hotel’s only redeeming feature, and we didn’t use the balcony once. The room did have a bath, but it took nearly 45 minutes to fill. There was no minibar menu, the thin, poor-quality bed linen and beds needed replacing, and the thin towels needed replacing daily. There was a disgusting plaster on the hair dryer, and the little hotel information provided at reception was very poor. The bar was small and had no atmosphere or music. The wine pour for the price was a complete joke. At first I thought they were letting me taste it, then realized that was the whole glass. The so-called happy hours offered about a euro off an Aperol spritz between 5 and 6, then a gin and tonic between 8 and 9. We found a simple bar called Banje on the way to town with more atmosphere and better food and drink. I don’t drink much, but on holiday it’s nice to unwind somewhere in the evening, and we ended up going back to our room. I wouldn’t recommend paying for half board, and if breakfast hadn’t been included, I’d have skipped it too. The coffee was terrible, with powdered milk in the machine, the juices were basically diluted juice with enough sugar to destroy your teeth, and the yogurt was watery. The toaster took 15 minutes, so I gave up. The rest was bog standard, and we mostly stuck to ham and cheese. Dinner was like poor school dinners, with much the same food nearly every night. You had to pay for every drink, including water. That might be okay, but their wine glasses were so small you’d need four to make a normal glass, and drink prices weren’t cheap. I think signing everything to your room makes it easier to lose track of how much you’ve spent. After a few nights we stopped going, despite having paid.
