Hotel Astarea

We loved the location and pool area, and the hotel was spotless. Our room was comfortable, with a good bed and pillows and a nice shower. The facilities were excellent, and we had no cleanliness issues. Food was the weak point. We stayed three nights, and the meals felt repetitive, with food not topped up very often. There wasn’t much for children, and we didn’t enjoy the desserts. Breakfast had the same problem, so I ended up having pancakes each day. The restaurant waiters were lovely, but reception staff came across as very serious and direct. We didn’t get a smile or a friendly greeting in any of our interactions. One evening we asked for milk and were told we could only have powdered milk. A guest in a nearby room joked that they wanted milk too, but was charged €3 for a very small cup. Water wasn’t provided with dinner either. We also overheard a woman asking for tap water so she could take her tablets and being refused, which we thought was pretty bad. Bottled water was very expensive.

We had a great stay, with a lovely location and a gorgeous view from the balcony. The Kids Club was a real highlight for our children. The staff were so kind and made their time there special, and they loved the play equipment and craft activities. It was also great having an indoor play area for rainy days.

We’d come from another hotel in Dubrovnik, and the difference in quality was clear. At Hotel ASTAREA, we loved the clean rooms, the food, and the wellness facilities and amenities. Having access to the beach was a lovely bonus. The kids zone was great too. Ivan and the other entertainer took such good care of our daughter and kept her happily involved in fun activities. The food was amazing, and we had a lovely stay. We’ll definitely be back, and I highly recommend it.

The town itself is very quiet, with only a few shops and restaurants. A €10-per-person boat taxi to old Dubrovnik is well worth taking, and the city walls cost a pricey €40 per person. The €40 cable car ride is another good option. The hotel was lovely and clean, better than its rating suggests, with friendly staff and a good range of fresh food.
