Basilica hotel by MERCADO

We enjoyed everything and would definitely return. The staff were especially friendly, thanks to all of them for that.

The location is a real plus, just steps from the center and within easy reach of the clubs in the evening. The pool area is beautiful and trendy. The rest of the stay was disappointing. We booked two days through Booking.com and had checked the cost of bringing our dog months earlier by contacting Booking.com. At checkout, they asked for more than the agreed amount. We showed the original confirmation, but they still refused to honor it, and the receptionist wouldn’t take the agreed payment through the POS. Checkout took over an hour because we were waiting for the woman to come. We waited a bit longer since our ferry was at a set time and we knew there would be a boarding queue. The room was very basic and didn’t look as good as the photos. The bathroom was old, with mold in places on the silicone around the sink and in the shower. There were fingerprints on the mirror and the balcony glass. Breakfast was a letdown too. On our first morning, two tables were set under the stairs, and a live fly was flying around inside the cold cuts container. The sweet options were Bauli snacks, some still wrapped and others tiny samples left out that looked questionable. There were only a few parking spaces right under the building, and they always seemed to be taken. When we asked where else to park, the receptionist said she didn’t know. At check-in they ask you to fill in a form that, in my view, is illegal under European regulations. It requests your card number and CVV, supposedly so they can charge you if you damage the room.

Tourist trap! We booked months ahead and paid the full amount in advance through Booking.com. Even though I’d told them we’d arrive late at night, we had to wait more than half an hour for the receptionist. Then our reservation didn’t work, leaving us without a hotel for the week. We had to sort something else out and pay more money upfront.

We definitely wouldn’t recommend this hotel. The rides in their car were nerve-racking because the driver went far too fast. There were five of us, and although we’d booked a round-trip shuttle two weeks ahead, the hotel couldn’t arrange a vehicle suited to our group. They insisted all six of us travel in a five-seat car. After a lot of discussion, they did offer a reasonable fix at no extra charge. When we arrived, the room wasn’t fully prepared. Towels and blankets were missing, and even after being assured they’d come, we had to keep asking when they’d be brought. It was frustrating to have to chase them repeatedly.
