Hi Hostel Stara Pekara Osijek

I wanted a relaxing two-night stay in Osijek, but it didn't work out. I mistakenly booked a bed in a shared room instead of a single, couldn't undo it online, and had to pay 50% more at reception with no flexibility. It was hot in the room, with no AC, and there was dirt under the bed. I also had to make the bed myself. There were no cups, shower soap, TV in the room, or ice cubes. The app didn't mention the mandatory membership fee of 1.5 euro per night. The reception wasn't open 24 hours as the app said, and there was no manager available for complaints, only an unfriendly substitute. For what I paid, the price to quality was poor, and I could've found much better in Osijek.

The reception girl was extremely nice, and the restaurant on the ground floor had great prices. The hostel is in a recently renovated old bakery, which gives it some charm. The rooms are amazing, with just four beds in spaces where other hostels might put at least eight, plus a private washroom and shower and free lockers for everyone. Maybe the flooring doesn't quite suit the feel of the place, but I've seen people damage it with luggage, so I understand the choice. One of the best hostels in Europe, I'd stay only here in Osijek!

The shared rooms had single beds rather than bunks, arranged as two pairs with a good-sized ensuite. The toilet, shower, and vanity areas were separate, and there were wardrobes, lockers, and a desk. The hostel is inside an Austro-Hungarian Fortress and kept to a high standard. Staff were excellent, bicycle storage inside was secure, free, and convenient, and there are elevators. For the price, everything was good.

This is the best hostel I've ever stayed in. The people do great work, and the staff are friendly. It's clean, too. The restaurant and the place's historical background deserve a mention. Highly recommended!
