Hotel Central Osijek

The view was a lovely extra, and I woke to birds singing. Central Osijek has a lot of character and history, and its authentic building has no elevator. The bathroom had a charming retro look, while the WiFi was fast and dependable. The hotel is rated two stars, but that breakfast felt like something from a Grand Hotel: fresh local products and eggs cooked to order. The ladies running this old jewel were welcoming and lovely, and renovations are being handled with care. Great location too. I'd recommend it wholeheartedly.

The Cathedral looked beautiful from the hotel. Even though it's right in the city center, it was very quiet. There's parking behind the hotel, and the staff were helpful and polite. Breakfast was fresh and tasty. I had a lovely stay.

The generous Slavic breakfast was a highlight, with plenty of vegetables, pickles, fruit, and Easter eggs. The hotel is in the heart of the city, and the staff were friendly. That breakfast makes it easy to forgive a few things. My room was a little worn, with carpet stains, no shampoo, too few conveniently placed sockets, and a bed that was too soft for me. Renovation is underway, though it seemed to be happening only on the outside. One very specific point: the nearby cathedral bells rang loudly from 6 am on Easter Sunday, and I could hear them very clearly in the room.

The only thing that got annoying now and then was noise from outside during the renovations, and even that was minor. The hotel is old, but spotless, good value, set in a historic building, and in a convenient part of the city. I really enjoyed my stay and hope to return one day. Ms. Sandra deserves special praise: she's the kindest, most empathetic lady I've ever met, always smiling, proactive, effective, and ready to help. Fellow travellers, please use some common sense and don't expect everything everywhere.
