Plitvica River House

The setting here is the best part. We could sit beside the charming water wheel, listen to the bubbling brook and little streams, watch birds in the rushes, and even accidentally scare a hare. We cooled our wine and beer in the icy water and just relaxed with a book. It’s only about a 10-minute walk to entrance C of Plitvica national park, and we explored route H. The scenery around the property was even more beautiful than we expected. Ante, Lucy, and their man friday Chetan welcomed us like family at this lovely home away from home. The rooms are spacious, warm, and comfortable. Breakfast is generous, with fruit, meat and cheese, eggs made to order, and homemade jams and spreads. Dinner is delicious but needs to be ordered ahead. There’s a good selection of premium international drinks and homemade grappa, too. This is a great base for exploring the park. If you don’t have a car, get in touch with Ivan from Eagle Taxi. There’s no dining or grocery store nearby, so come prepared.

Don’t let all the five-star reviews put you off. If you need a B&B near Plitvice Lakes National Park, this is the real deal. We visited in mid-September and had a great time, though I believe they close for winter. Ante and Lucia made us feel like family from the moment we walked in. The property is clean, comfortable, and welcoming. Breakfast was delicious, with fruit, cooked eggs to choose from, and local treats like apricot and fig jams. We also loved the dinners: three courses each night, with dessert surprises, fresh food cooked with care, a well-stocked bar, and excellent Croatian wine. You can taste Ante’s passion for cooking, and his energy makes everyone feel special. Ask them to help plan your Park visit. Lucia gave us detailed directions for the views from above on arrival, then showed us an efficient, comfortable way to see the Park inside the gates while avoiding crowds. They also suggested alternate routes for someone in our group who needed longer, less technical walks. Plitvice River House was the highlight of our two-week Croatian trip and a lovely way to finish. It’s roughly two and a half hours from Zadar, Trogir/Split, and Zagreb, so it’s a handy place to stay when visiting Plitvice. One tip: ask Ante for a Hugo with his homemade elderflower syrup, then sit outside on the back patio and enjoy it while chatting about Plitvice Lakes National Park. It’s a nice way to spend time with your travel companions or meet other guests. We were very glad we booked.

The food was a real highlight, especially the dinner Anton prepared. Lucy and Anton were also incredibly helpful with tips for visiting the park and making the rest of our stay memorable. The peaceful, beautiful location was perfect for unwinding after a day out exploring. They welcomed us so warmly that we felt like family, and we had an amazing time at Plitvica River House. We’d highly recommend staying here. It’s an experience we’ll remember.

After long hikes at the National Park, the dining patio was a lovely place to wind down, and Ante’s meals were outstanding. The house is close to the P3 entrance, making it convenient to get to the park without the crowds. Lucy and Ante went out of their way to make us feel at home, and our stay exceeded expectations.
