Villa Matea

Everything was great. The apartment was spotless, fully furnished, and looked just like the photos. We loved the pool and garden, and the landlords were very friendly. It's a little out of the way, but getting around by car was no problem.

The welcome was genuinely warm. We got a generous basket of fruit and vegetables, two tasty bottles of schnapps, and jams in the fridge. Now and then, the owners also brought gifts from their garden: fresh vegetables, grapes, melon, eggs and more jam. A cot and highchair were free on request. They supplied mosquito repellent, hand and dish towels, some dishwasher tablets, dish soap, bed linen and three toilet rolls. The apartment is spacious, around 120m² on the ground floor, as shown in the photos, and the landlords were very nice. But the pictures give a misleading impression from a distance. This isn't the luxury apartment advertised, and at such a high price I expected it to be properly equipped and, above all, clean. It wasn't. Cobwebs and spiders were all over roughly 90% of the place, with old caked-on dirt in corners by both the ceiling and the floor. There were painted-over patches on the walls, squashed mosquitoes and midges, filthy skirting boards, and a thick layer of grime on the air conditioner. A lot of the furnishings and fittings were damaged or poorly repaired: a patched-up wardrobe with sliding doors that stuck, sinks that drained slowly, broken fridge shelves, dirty patched-in kitchen units and a burnt countertop. Electrical outlets hung loose from the walls, junction boxes were left open and uncovered, protective covers were missing from outlets and switches, and wires were exposed. For 8-10 people, there was just one towel rail and two hooks. The kitchen was poorly stocked despite having hundreds of plates. It was missing salad servers, cake forks, salt and pepper shakers, scissors, a peeler, cooking spoons, small paring knives and egg cups. There was only one 15 cm wooden spoon, plus a broken PVC spatula and a broken travel coffee maker. There was one kitchen outlet for 4-5 appliances. No vacuum, dustpan, hand broom, mop or bucket was provided, and there was no cleaning for three weeks. The advertised clothes dryer, hairdryer, ironing board and iron were missing too. Instead of a drying rack, there was a line with 12 clothespins strung between two terrace pillars. The 120m² apartment had only one air conditioner, in the living room. The high rate and carefully staged photos had led us to expect three relaxing weeks, so we're simply disappointed. What a shame. Please make major improvements or lower the price.

The pool and terrace are great, and the villa is beautifully and tastefully furnished. A lovely place to just enjoy yourself.
