The apartment was clean, reasonably equipped, and well located. What made the stay so stressful was the landlady repeatedly coming inside without warning. On the first day she unlocked the door and walked in without knocking or calling. We thought it might have been a mix-up, but it kept happening. She came by nearly every day, sometimes more than once, morning, afternoon, and evening. She said she wanted to check things or see whether we were doing things properly, and commented on everything from the windows and towels to whether we were laughing too loudly. When we returned from the beach once, she was already inside among our belongings. We politely asked her to stop, but she got defensive and called guests like us difficult. We had been respectful, yet her idea of hospitality felt more like being supervised than hosted. We never felt we had privacy. At first we were excited about a Croatian holiday with sun, sea, and time to unwind. Instead, we ended up laughing at how absurd the visits were and even betting on when she would appear again. It felt like a sitcom, though I'm glad there were two of us because being alone would have been uncomfortable. We wanted to relax, not feel watched all the time. Anyone who cares about privacy should avoid booking this place. We won't forget the vacation, but for all the wrong reasons, and eventually laughing about it didn't change that one stay was enough.
