Boutique Hotel Villa Vulin

We were here on 29-8-2023 for two nights. Villa Vulin is a beautiful building with plenty of potential, but it needs maintenance. The little details show that. The staff are very friendly and do their best, though they have little to no experience in this industry. That's not necessarily a bad thing, since everyone has to learn. This review isn't about them. Our room was large, clean and comfortable, and much of the building was tidy and relatively clean, but other areas were a mess. The entrance had no air conditioning, so it wasn't comfortable to come in. The room door doesn't close properly and has to be locked to stay shut. The empty toilet roll holder and a lightbulb sticking out of the bedside lamp were early signs of poor attention to detail. The bedroom and living room air conditioning worked, but the bedroom unit kept clacking as it stopped and started, waking us up. It couldn't be turned off because it restarted by itself. With the temperatures so high, we needed it. The bedroom light also kept glowing after being switched off, apparently from leakage current. That could point to faulty wiring and the residual light was bright enough to keep me awake. At one in the morning, I had to balance on a chair on the bed to unscrew the bulbs. We didn't sleep well. The bed and mattress weren't good, and the bed moved whenever we turned over. The balcony door couldn't be locked and basically stayed open, while its external blind didn't work. Some window blinds needed manual help, and one window had no curtain at all. The shower handle is fixed in the wrong place, so the floor by the bath and sink gets very wet. A big towel helps, but those details matter if you're aiming for five stars. Breakfast was continental, though you could debate what that should include. This one didn't live up to the name, and you'd be better off eating somewhere else. The location is fine, with restaurants nearby, but we don't think the 220 euro per night price is justified for a stay that isn't five star. We considered leaving and accepting the loss, but decided to stay. Pula was waiting and we only had one day, so we made the most of it. We'll see how tonight goes. If you're willing to put up with the flaws and pay a relatively high price, that's up to you. We don't recommend staying until they've done serious work on quality. We're not coming back, and we'd suggest passing on this place, though you can make up your own mind. Maybe we're too picky.

The second bedroom in the two bedroom luxury apartment was actually a windowless walk-in wardrobe, accessible only through the first bedroom. The breakfast was terrible, and there was no sea view despite it being promised. Avoid.

The breakfast felt a bit pricey, though the rooms were really nice and spacious. There's free Wi-Fi up to 25 Mb/sec and complimentary parking right outside the hotel.

Such a great location, with lovely people and a beautiful restaurant. If you want somewhere to enjoy yourself and relax, I can recommend it from the heart. Can't wait to come back.
