Hostel Pipištrelo

It seems to depend on which room you get. Mine was nice and clean, but the room on the fourth floor smelled like death, with a slight hint of acid.

The cleaner, who also seemed to represent the owner, was really helpful and friendly. There were some attractive details too, including a nice lounge to relax in with quirky decor. It’s very central, right beside the harbor. The shared bathroom was the only letdown.

The location is great, but the room was tiny and stuffy, with a strange smell and no ventilation. There were no windows, despite what the pictures suggest, since artificial lighting made it look as if there were. The Wi-Fi was poor when it did connect, and staff were absent, so problems weren’t dealt with promptly. They supplied a hand towel rather than a bath towel, and it looked so overused that I’d bring my own or buy one from DM. Something bit me during the night, and I also saw insects in the bathroom (pictures enclosed). My concern was brushed off as “mosquitoes.” Worst of all, after the room was cleaned, staff moved my intimate clothing that I’d left to dry and put it on my pillow.

The room was clean and ready, with a private toilet, AC, and all the comforts I needed. Communication through WhatsApp and phone was very efficient, and they explained everything about the place. I could come and go whenever I wanted without any hassle. For the price and location, this is the best hostel I’ve found around Europe. If you’re after an exclusive level of service, look for a hotel and pay the appropriate price.
