Apartment Laurel

The apartment was clean, though it had no microwave and the hot water ran out quickly, so baths had to be short. What really spoiled things was the construction right next door, starting at 7 every morning. Nobody had told us about it, and they’re building an apartment block, so it’ll probably go on for a long time. The dust and noise made it impossible to sit on the little terrace with coffee. I felt cheated. Rijeka itself is terribly dirty. The sea is beautiful, but I don’t understand how anyone finds the city beautiful. Never again. If Krk or Opatija hadn’t been nearby, I would’ve gone home on the first day.

The owner was generally in a good mood, and we could park in his garden just 10 metres from the accommodation. There’s a small terrace and a garden barbecue beyond a hedge. I’d say this place suits couples more than families with children. We only discovered the construction site right next door when we arrived. The owner couldn’t really tell us anything, as there hadn’t been any notice on booking.com, and from what we could see, the work will take a long time. Rijeka may be very beautiful, but renovations are happening everywhere. We couldn’t find parking down by the port, so we didn’t get to see it. Be prepared for steep driving and parking, and some parking machines don’t accept Revolut cards.

A clean, quiet house that worked perfectly for us, a couple with a child. The two owners were fantastic and very kind.
