Being right in the old town, close to the port, was the best thing about Villa Markiz, and it was fairly inexpensive, as is much of Rovinj. Our apartment, Zara, had a balcony because we paid extra for it. It was fine, but nothing special, and I probably wouldn’t pay for that again. The place mostly had what we needed, no more and no less. I wouldn’t be excited or disappointed to stay there again. The shower setup was the one real drawback. There was a tub without a plug until our landlady brought one about halfway through the week. A detachable shower head was there, but no curtain or glass, so water sprayed around the bathroom. Strange and inconvenient, though not the end of the world. It felt more like an apartment than a hotel.

We were given a windowless studio apartment rather than a hotel room. There was no source of outside air in the bedroom, so I definitely wouldn’t recommend offering it as a hotel room.

The apartment I got had just one window facing a narrow street, and the living room had none. I’d been sold a sea view, so that was a letdown. I could hear everything the neighbors did or said, along with all the noise outside. In over five years of visiting Croatia many times, this was my worst experience.
