It’s easy to lose track of time wandering Varoš, with its narrow lanes and stone houses leading toward Marjan park-forest, a protected nature reserve locals call “the lungs of the city.” The area sits at the heart of Split and has an easygoing feel that the city is known for. Varoš was once home to local farmhands and fishermen. Today it’s a tourist hub full of konobas (taverns), restaurants, cafés, art galleries, and small stores, where history and tradition come together. Pedestrian streets wind past several old churches and gradually climb toward the park. It’s a lovely neighborhood to explore and get a little lost in.

Ana at reception in the breakfast room was so kind and quick to help. Big thanks to her. The place is also quiet, and the old town is about a 10-minute walk away. There are good, inexpensive breakfast options there too. The room had air conditioning, a minibar and a safe, and towels were changed every other day. The hotel breakfast is a separate two-minute walk, either covered by a voucher or available for around €20. The room was about 13 square meters with two small windows, and it wasn't cleaned during my stay. The mattress, on a cheap metal frame, was 1.60 m wide and wobbled whenever I moved. The roughly one-meter Ikea wardrobe came with eight thin plastic hangers; they were bent after two days with jeans on them. The bathroom door wouldn't open properly or shut all the way. The breakfast room was so cramped that getting to the coffee machine meant disturbing other guests. The hotel served the same breakfast every day for all seven days, despite advertising a buffet. The only “luxury” here is the price.

The room had a nice bathroom with a shower and plenty of hot water, plus a large closet. It also had Wi-Fi and air conditioning/heating. There was a TV too, though I didn't use it. The kitchen is shared with another room, which was fine with me. I got in touch with Lidija late in the afternoon and was able to rent the room that same day at a good rate in late April 2019. She was pleasant and helpful, gave me overnight parking information, and left maps of Split in the kitchen. Thank you, Lidija. Hvala vam Lidija.

The Wi-Fi was good, and reaching the host on WhatsApp worked really well. The place was clean, with a new bathroom, a shared kitchen and a small garden for the two rooms. It's just outside the center, around a five-minute walk, though it was a little hard to find.
