I've never stayed at the hotel, so I can't comment on that, but I've been to its cafe many times. You can't get much more central than this. It has an antique feel, lots of drinks to choose from, and a bathroom with a digital lock. The code is for guests only and is on the bill. Prices are the one downside, they're higher than usual, though that's to be expected on Riva.

I arrived injured and on crutches, and the front desk receptionist greeted me with a smile. A very tall man with white hair, Mr E, brought me an ice pack for my knee without me even asking. The room was clean and had air conditioning, with a great view of the square. Right in the heart of Split, it's perfect for people watching. Breakfast starts at 6 a.m., a bonus! Great for Germans too.

The hotel's old and a bit tired, but full of character. The beds were comfortable, and there was hot water on tap. It's in a very good location, so it's fine if you don't mind a worn hotel. My main concern was fire safety. I couldn't see any smoke detectors, if there were any, they were hidden. There are no additional fire escape routes either, which could be a disaster if there were a fire.

The sea front is lovely, and the location worked well for us. The little shop had the essentials, though prices were a bit high. There are quite a few restaurants along the strip by Medina hotel beach, which is an easy walk away. Trogir is close, and Split isn't too far either. The staff were friendly.

Right in the center of Split, with a great view of the sea and Splitska Riva. The staff were welcoming and ready to help. The hotel itself feels stuck in the 1980s, though, and could use some renovation.
