Maestro Duplex Istarska Apartment

Our trip was cancelled in the middle of the COVID pandemic. They said they'd refund the deposit to avoid a dispute with the booking site, then stopped responding despite my repeated attempts to reach them. Dishonest people, in my view, and I strongly advise avoiding them. They seem to think the laws protecting tourists don't apply to them.

The house was fine, but it felt a little neglected and could have been cleaner. The living room could use a curtain because the morning light comes in strongly. The listing said payment would be in local currency, but when we asked, they said either currency was fine, so we paid in euros. The duplex is on the third floor, with no elevator, as we knew beforehand. Downstairs there’s a large living room, an open-plan kitchen, and a very new bathroom. Upstairs are three bedrooms with sloping ceilings and double beds; two also have an extra bed. One bedroom was quite small. There’s an older second bathroom up there, but showering in it was less convenient because of the sloped ceiling. Driving there was a bit more complicated than in other cities, mostly because Split is such a large city. The apartment is a five-minute walk from the Golden Gate (Zlatna Vrata) of Diocletian's Palace. Parking is on the street. That day, he had his motorbike in a space meant for us, but since it's street parking, moving it could have meant losing the spot. There’s a nearby paid lot for 7 kn/h, which is really just a fenced-off street. On the second day we moved the van and found a space, so we didn't need to use it.
