Back in 2017, I came to Split intending to end my life. Meeting you all helped me trust people again. Dora, steve, adi, Zeljana, Thor, Steff, thank you for the warmth and hospitality, and for helping save my life. The Bogamoljka Guy. God bless you.

I was glad to leave. The place looks like the photos, but it was much dirtier: the kitchen and bathroom were a mess, and people didn't clean up properly. The rules didn't seem to be enforced, including the supposed 10 o'clock quiet time, with music and partying carrying on. Bring earplugs. The cats are part of the place, and it smells of cat life. For what it costs, especially compared with cleaner, modern hostels in other cities, it felt like a sham. There was a sort of tribe vibe for pseudo-hippies who chain-smoke and like pot. Certainly an interesting stay 😂

It’s a very small hostel, and everything is squeezed together: kitchen, reception, and the common area all share a tiny space. I loved the terrace, cats, and kitchen, and it felt more like joining a community than staying in a commercial hostel. Everyone was nice and it was easy to meet people, though most seemed to be in their late twenties, so as a 19-year-old I found it hard to connect. It’s probably best for a night or two if you want personal space, quiet, or privacy. There’s just one bathroom for all the women, with one sink, two showers, and one toilet. You can lock the toilet stall but not the bathroom, which made changing difficult with 10 other people in the dorm. The hostel and rooms themselves don’t lock either, though there’s a spacious locker for your things. The volunteers and manager also sleep in the main rooms and come in and out for bed sheets, sometimes talking loudly about work conflicts. I felt uncomfortable trying to rest there during the day when I was exhausted from being outside. Cleaning could have been better, but I think that’s understandable for a volunteer-run hostel. It’s about 20 minutes to the nearest beach and the city centre. Right around the hostel are unattractive apartment blocks, a school, and a large construction site at the moment. It could be a fun stay, as long as you know it’s very simple for 20€ a night and don’t stay too long.

When I arrived to stay, I was told the place was under restoration. They hadn't sent me any messages beforehand. Someone there directed me to another hostel, a 20-minute walk away. Luckily that one had a bed available. If it had been summer, I might have had nowhere to stay. Stay away.

The people were great, and the rooms felt cozy and full of character. This little place has a relaxed, friendly atmosphere that made me feel at home right away. You can walk to both the old town and Marjan Forest, so the location is ideal. A lovely, soulful option for solo travelers or anyone after a laid-back stay. If I come back to Split, I’ll stay here again.
