I’m biased since the host is my partner’s cousin, and we stayed in one of the apartments for a really memorable New Year’s Eve. I’ve travelled extensively for 30 years, and I found the place very clean, with a comfortable bed and a superb location. That little balcony was a favourite. Just know there’s a spiral staircase. My eyesight isn’t great, but I got used to it. The host is Split, and his family and his father’s family lived in the Old Town. Hearing stories about his childhood in this beautiful city felt like a privilege. Enjoy exploring, and check out the library bar too 📚 🍸 X Leanne Veronica

There are plenty of coffee shops and restaurants nearby, and it’s easy to reach the place on foot. Cars can’t enter this protected area, so expect to walk about 3-5 minutes, or around 30 minutes depending on where you’re coming from. The stay was amazing, and the owner was really friendly and always ready to help. The room is spacious, with AC, a shower, closet, small table, and chairs. There’s no elevator, just tiny stairs. It sits within UNESCO protected Diocletian’s palace, which also meant some noise at night from drunk people passing through.

Inside the Golden Gate, right within the old city walls, so you’re close to the action and atmosphere without having to haul luggage through the busiest part. It’s quieter by the Golden Gate, too. The rooms are nicely fitted out, but you’ll climb several flights of wooden spiral stairs to get there. Highly recommended.

The staff were so friendly and helpful, which topped off a great stay in Split. It’s a lovely little apartment with a view of the top of the bell tower, and the entrance is right in the historic golden gate. Expect people to photograph you whenever you come and go. That didn’t bother me, though the three flights of spiral stairs could be a problem for some.

Staying in a 17th century room inside the golden gate felt like a real privilege. It was clean, quiet, and had everything we needed. Just be ready for the spiral staircase on the way up, which added to the experience.
