PIETRA ROSSA Luxury Rooms

The host was welcoming, and I was allowed to check in early at no extra cost after arriving by train in the morning, which was great. It’s a pleasant vintage-style room in an apartment building, within walking distance of the old town. The bed was really comfortable. A table and chair would be useful for eating food from the nearby supermarket.

It’s an easy walk to Split’s promenade, so the location is good. What we booked was presented online as a boutique luxury four-star hotel. Instead, there was no reception and the property turned out to be a flat divided into several “hotel rooms.” Given the price and the description, we expected at least a proper four-star room like the one advertised.

After a busy day exploring Split, it was lovely to return to a quiet spot so close to the old city. Our room was clean, nicely decorated, and had plenty of storage. The team at Pietra Rossa made us feel welcome right away and were always available. A really nice place to stay, highly recommended.

In at least 30 years of traveling, I’ve never stayed somewhere worse. There were broken lamp switches, dead bulbs, a faulty refrigerator, and none of the toiletries or amenities that had been promised. The advertising and management felt dishonest, and so did the staff. They lied and didn’t resolve any of the problems; their excuse for being lazy and stupid was “This is Croatia.” We live in Croatia for part of the year, and that simply isn’t true. Their service was abysmal, with no excuse for it. If zero stars were an option, that’s what I’d give. Avoid at all costs.
