Salvezani apartments

The apartment is in a wonderful spot inside Diocletian's Palace, and it felt cozy. It has a bedroom plus a separate living area with a sofa and kitchenette. There’s a washing machine and drying rack; the bathroom is tiny but works, and the shower is like being on a boat, with curtains pulled around to make a shower space. The host was kind, but may not be very comfortable with technology. I think she sometimes read messages on Booking.com, where we found the apartment, without replying. You have to set a time to meet for the keys. I forgot to arrange it until arrival day, so that was my fault for giving short notice. I said we could walk around and meet her when she was free. After waiting 1.5 hours without a response, we decided to go to the apartment and luckily arrived just as she did. I’d also asked about parking a week or two ahead. She suggested two paid public lots but didn’t know their prices. The closest was full, so we parked behind the bus station, about a 10-minute walk away. It cost €27 cash for 24 hours, or €1.5 for the first hour and €2 for each additional hour, capped at €27 per 24 hours. Once we had the keys, we went back to the car to collect our luggage.

The accommodation itself was charming and affordable, in a great location. It could have been our favourite stay, since the place was beautiful, but the host’s manner made it a less friendly experience. At checkout she seemed nice, but at check-in she was abrupt. We’d asked about times and she said noon would work. When she arrived, she immediately said check-in was meant to be at 3 p.m. and that we’d made things difficult for her with parking. Then she complained that “Americans always do this and that,” referring to the previous couple. We were happy to wait until 3, but the miscommunication seemed to irritate her. She said she’d handle payment the following morning. We stayed in the room until 12.30 p.m. before she arrived. Luckily, we had loose plans that day, since we had to remain in the room. The shower drain was blocked, but by then I didn’t want to bring it up because she seemed difficult. I hope these problems were a one-off.

We stayed in the one-bedroom attic apartment in September 2024. The place had a really nice feel, with lovely decor. The bedroom was downstairs and the lounge and kitchen were upstairs. It’s centrally located within the historic walls, and the price was very good. The host was lovely too. There was no microwave, and the lounge suite was a little dirty.
