The neighborhood wasn’t particularly nice, though the flat is only about twenty minutes from the center. Inside, we had to hand over our shoes and weren’t allowed to keep drinks in the room, even plain water. The landlady spoke only Croatian and kept checking on us whenever we left our room, even at night when we went to the toilet. She inspected the bathroom after we used it, came into our room to check whether we were following the rules, and often pushed or touched us. She didn’t seem to respect our privacy. When we came back around 10:30, she gestured that we should keep quiet. We hadn’t been talking and tried to close the door quietly, but she thought we were too loud and took the bathroom key away. Later, when I went to use it, she came over, ranted at me, and kept the key as punishment. Stay away from this place.

The room itself was okay, but the bathroom was dirty: the toilet seat and mirrors were unclean, the sink had dark marks, and there was hair on the floor. For €70 a night, I didn’t expect to be told I could only use the bathroom for 15-20 minutes. The rules posted on the wall were mostly ridiculous, and the whole stay felt like having no privacy at all. We locked our room when we went out, but I’m sure she checked it. We spent as long as we could in town and left early just to avoid dealing with the woman again. I was relieved it was only one night. From the moment we arrived, the landlady, who spoke Croatian and only a few words of English, was rough and spoke so quickly that it was hard to get a word in. She told us to remove our shoes because of Coronavirus and took them, but didn’t say where she put them. We had to ask several times before finding out they were in a wardrobe. Then she grabbed my hand and pushed me toward the bathroom to show me how to turn on the shower and sink and flush the toilet. We spent around twenty minutes talking about the room in Croatian while she checked on us several times. I hung wet towels by the little window to dry, but she took them and said she’d put them on her balcony. I told her I’d need them soon and wasn’t comfortable searching for my things in someone else’s home. She ignored me, took the towels and even pulled my wet swimsuits from my hand, then searched the room to see if there was anything else. She brought my things back about twenty minutes later, but I was still upset that she’d decided what to do with them. After my shower she waited in the hallway for me to hand over my wet towel. After we returned from town in the middle of the night, she was awake as if waiting for us. We took showers one after another, and she went into the bathroom after each of us, checking and cleaning. She made us wait until she was done before we could use it again. We’d booked through Booking two days earlier and had no other option then, but I can’t believe we paid for this. I grabbed my bags and left without talking when it was time to go. This is not how accommodation should be. Avoid staying here.

The price was just right. It’s a nice place, with a clean shared bathroom and a view of the sea.

For a lovely view and warm hospitality in Split, this is a great place to get a room. The service was excellent, 10/10.
