The landlady is so kind and attentive, and the apartment has everything you need. It’s a lovely spot if you want peace and quiet. Just bring some food along: the village has almost nothing, and a food van comes only once a week, if it comes at all. For fish, ask a fisherman and one will turn up.

When the power suddenly went out that evening, our hosts quickly brought us flashlights and kept apologizing. It was such a touching gesture. They were warm and welcoming from the start, showing us to a clean, comfortable place with everything we needed. We also appreciated having our own entrance and plenty of independence, while the hosts, who live upstairs, stayed attentive to us. In all our travels around the Balkans, this was the only guesthouse we found with both a dishwasher and a water filter. It’s in the extraordinarily beautiful village of Starigrad, though quite remote.
