Villa Fontana

I stayed at villa fontana for two nights. The room was clean and lovely, and the milkshake I had at the bottom of the villa was superb.

The hotel is old, but clean and in excellent shape. Our room was spacious, right in the center of the island and near everything we wanted to see. Staying in a UNESCO world heritage site also made me think about what earns a place that status. The staff were incredibly helpful and kind from check-in through check-out. A ferocious thunderstorm flooded downtown, lasted for hours and more or less trapped us in the hotel, but they did everything they could to make us comfortable through it. The desk clerk explained where to go, what and where to eat, and how to get the most from our stay. I’ve been lucky enough to stay in some of the world’s great hotels, and I haven’t met staff more friendly or helpful. I hope I get the chance to visit again.

You can really feel Trogir from the hotel windows, since you're right in the middle of it. The host was fantastic, always ready with tips on where to go and what to do, and good at finding deals with local places. Great value too.

The old town location is the main plus. This felt more like an Air B&B than a hotel: there was nobody at reception when we arrived or when we returned at night, and we had to wait ten minutes for someone to come check us in. They charged us too much tourist tax. I let the extra 3 euros go because I didn't want the hassle of arguing. We couldn't leave our luggage there either, and the first-floor rooms looked quite old-fashioned. I wouldn't recommend it.
