Hotel Faraon

We stayed at the hotel for three nights. Receptionist Iva deserves a mention: she kept trying to help, was keen to assist, and was professional. She was definitely the highlight of our stay at Faraon. The kitchen and dining staff were also amazing, working hard to accommodate everyone. Our room’s air conditioner didn’t work at first, but the reception fixed it quickly. The room was reasonably clean, the bed reasonably comfortable, and we liked the balcony and views. The beach was beautiful. I wish we’d gone somewhere else. I insisted on booking because I used to come to Trpanj as a child with my parents, so I should blame myself. We didn’t get the preferred premium room. There are a lot of stairs, 110 up to our room. The hotel parking is about 400 m away, on a grassy field with no security. The hotel seems to attract people on a budget. Some behavior by mostly foreign group guests put us off: touching and choosing food with bare hands, being loud, and not respecting others. I have nothing against foreigners, but I do have a lot against people behaving badly. The beach is beautiful, but you have to pay for chairs. We couldn’t get a pool chair even once because there aren’t enough and they’re always covered with towels. The hotel doesn’t provide beach or pool towels, so bring your own. Drinks were basic, and the prepared cocktails especially were too sweet. Rooms have no mini fridge or safe unless you pay extra. The balcony door or shutters wouldn’t close properly. The bathroom smelled bad, the shower was moldy, and the vanity was partly blocked. They supplied only one small hair and body sachet per day for two people. The room wasn’t cleaned daily, though fresh towels were provided. I love pets, but owners should not let their dogs urinate in the pool area. We were extremely surprised that the owner didn’t react at all when one of his dogs did. Dogs and their owners should be held to a high standard of behavior. There’s a lot of room for improvement. It’s a shame, since I believe the Adriatic Sea is the best in the world, but we were disappointed this time. With these issues, I don’t think we’d recommend the hotel or return. In the end, you get what you pay for.

The staff were attentive and accommodating when we asked to move to a lower floor, and handled the request kindly and efficiently. It’s an older hotel with no elevator, though, so even the third floor means climbing five stories from street level. The location is right by the sea, and every room has a beach view. Breakfast is very generous and served on a lovely balcony overlooking the water. There’s also a pool, bar, and other amenities for a comfortable stay.

The rooms are lovely and kept in good shape, and when something stops working, they sort it out right away. I also really liked breakfast, especially the American pancakes, and lunch had plenty of interesting choices like chicken, rice, and pasta. Dinner was decent for the price, though I've had better. There were a couple of issues during the rain: part of the hotel flooded when the water collection system filled up, and the power went out twice for about 30 seconds each time.

The one real advantage is the location. The rest was a major letdown. Our all-inclusive room was on the top floor of the second building, which has no elevator, and it smelled damp and musty. The shelves were dusty, the balcony door wouldn't shut, and the air conditioner rattled. The rooms look like they're from Tito's era and don't justify what we paid. Food was average and the desserts bland. If you like espresso, don't count on it: the cheap machines included in the package don't make anything you could call espresso. Parking is 700-800 meters away, and you pay extra each day for a sunbed, umbrella, fridge, and a parking spot in front of the hotel. The place badly needs renovation.
