After spending several months in Croatia, I found only a handful of hotels I’d happily return to, and Laurentum is one of them. The renovated hotel was clean and had a friendly feel. The whole team did a great job, from the cleaning lady to the director, and the staff were very professional.

We loved how warmly the staff welcomed us, and they’d even kept a parking space for us though we’d forgotten to book one. The rooms are clean, modern, nicely decorated and well equipped, with very comfortable beds, although I found the mattress a bit firm. There aren’t many sunbeds, so some guests put towels on them to reserve them while they’re at the beach or somewhere else. That wasn’t great to see.

We stayed for a week and a half, and the breakfast buffet was excellent, especially out on the terrace with its view. We also really enjoyed the pool. The receptionists were kind and kept suggesting places to visit, and they gave the kids lots of candy. The hotel is in a small town, near the beaches and on a lovely shopping street. I loved our holiday here and would definitely recommend it if you’re in the area.

Our 10-day booking had been confirmed twice, but at 6 p.m. the evening before we were due to leave, the hotel called to say it was canceled. We’d packed the car and were expecting to set off the next morning for an 826 km drive and a pleasant holiday. They said a previous guest didn’t want to leave the suite we’d booked, and the hotel was full, so they couldn’t offer us another room. This is outrageous. I think we’ll never visit Croatia again.
