I’m writing this update after seeing another review that refers to mine and says they witnessed last year’s incident. I doubt they saw the male owner physically assault me. It’s a shame they didn’t speak up when the police arrived; an independent witness willing to testify would have been helpful. On the dogs, the police told me the matter was for the local authorities. Those authorities confirmed that, because there is no sign prohibiting dogs, dogs are allowed on the beach. The police said they would intervene under the Law on Offences Against Public Order and Peace, Article 30, in cases such as animals being kept unsupervised and carelessly when they could injure or endanger people. The owners say the beach is private, but local authorities confirmed to me that it is public. Last year I often saw people leaving towels and other belongings there to save a spot. That is illegal in Croatia and can result in a fine and confiscation of the items. I think it’s sad that the apartment owners either don’t know the laws where they live or are knowingly giving guests false information, which guests then repeat in reviews. After I first posted my review, the owners removed the place from Google Maps. I contacted Google about restoring it, and they advised me to add the place again. Maybe the owners have noticed since then, because there are now a few reviews from people who say they have stayed at this apartment many times and describe past, not necessarily recent, experiences. Original review, September 2022: The owners tell guests they have a private beach, but it is public and allows animals. They act aggressively toward nearby tourists and try to chase them away. If you want to avoid arguments with tourists and police involvement, I strongly advise staying away.
