We had a wonderful stay at Mara and Pero's place. The room was clean and comfortable, with a kitchen, a dining table for four, and a rooftop hot tub. They welcomed us with a little drink, either cherry, white wine or iced tea. We spoke with their "son" and with Mara and Pero using a few words and Croatian translators. They used to run a restaurant 6-7 years ago, so they know how to look after guests. Pero is a "no problem" guy, and Mara is always glad to help. The Marina is two minutes away, with shops, gelaterias and bakeries nearby. Olympia Sky hotel is a pleasant 15-20 minute walk away. We drove and were lucky to get parking on site. Parking takes some guidance, but Pero made it "no problem"! There’s also a car barrier from 10pm to 5am, presumably to limit traffic and leave more room for pedestrians during busy tourist periods. Pero can explain how it works. We were there during their Victory Holiday and could see fireworks from the rooftop terrace. It’s a great location, and we recommend it. We miss them already.

I found the apartment completely unfit to stay in. The floors were dirty, the bathroom hadn’t been washed, the bedding was stained and there was an unpleasant smell throughout. There were cockroaches in both the kitchen and rooms as well. The online photos bear no relation to what we found. Hygiene was at the lowest level, and the stay was disgusting and impossible for us. I don’t recommend it to anyone.

We’ve stayed here three times, and each time the apartment has been clean and the location just right. One thing bothers us, though: the host drinks a lot and keeps pushing schnapps or wine on us. When we decline, he gets offended. We find that too pushy.

Downtown Luxury Suites gets five stars from me. The owner and his wife were lovely, and the place is cleaned every day. The location deserves five stars too. I’ve rarely met people this nice, especially in Croatia. The owner also runs Tamaris, one of the best restaurants in Vodice, and I’m quite picky about food. I’ll definitely book with him again next year.

Our apartment was clean and nicely furnished, with everything we needed, and parking was available. The hosts were warm and helpful. We’ll definitely be back.
