Vila Familia Hvar

Hvar island is incredibly beautiful. The nearby ports, Starigrad, Vrboska, and Jelsa, are all nice, and the sea is crystal clear. It’s quiet, with little beaches, and a pleasure to spend time there. But the place where my family and I stayed wasn’t worth 200 euro per night. With a little more attention from the host, it could have been pleasant, but the host seemed very focused on the financial side. For instance, there was only one toilet paper roll for three people and seven nights. When I asked for more after two days, I was told we had to buy it because only one was included. Coming from far away and paying 200 hundred euro per night, it was very inconvenient to drive 5 km to a market, since there isn’t one you can reach without a car, just to buy toilet paper for under 0.5 euro per roll. The kitchen utensils, forks and knives and so on, seemed to be from different sets, as if collected from different tavernas. The shower has a small cabin with curtains, and even when you’re careful the floor gets wet. From the balcony, you can see the sea about 300m away through the trees. The view isn’t clear, but it’s still nice, and the sunrise is beautiful to watch while having coffee on the terrace. I gave it two stars because the location didn’t justify what we paid. Pay attention to the lack of photos of the location posted by the owner.

We stayed at Villa Familia Hvar for a week in August 2024. The apartment had a living room with a kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom. The kitchen had utensils, plates, pots and the usual basics, though the furniture felt cheap. Basina is quiet and about 100 metres from the sea, but there are no loungers or umbrellas on the beach, and no shop or restaurant nearby. Vrboska’s lovely port is a few kilometres away. Tomislav, the owner, lives on the villa’s ground floor and gave us the information we needed. The small courtyard has a pool of about 6 by 3 metres and four loungers. Cleanliness was a letdown: dust, spiders in the ceiling corners, sheets with holes and used towels. The price felt too high for what was offered. I think more care with cleaning, details and hospitality would make a difference.

My family and I had such a good time here. It was the best part of our summer, and Tomislav was always so helpful. Sending our best to him from Chicago, IL. Hope to see you and your family again soon :)

The sea-facing terrace was spacious and sunny, and the apartment’s size and layout would work well for a family of four. We were three. The villa is in a quiet area near a bay with a public beach, pine shade and an easy walk into the water. The first thing that happened when we arrived on the second floor, struggling up the stairs with heavy bags, was that the owner asked for our money and documents instead of helping or showing us around. That was very upsetting. The bathroom had no shelf, cupboard or other place for towels or toiletries, and water from the small curtained shower spread across the floor. There wasn’t even a mop. The towels were clean but very worn. In the double bedroom there was only one bedside table, so nowhere on the other side for a phone, book or glass of water. Our room wasn’t cleaned during the stay. There was one broom for the whole villa, and sometimes I couldn’t find it. The kitchen table and walls were dirty. We cleaned them ourselves and didn’t mind doing that, but at 200 euros a night for three adults over seven nights, the value was completely off. For information, the pool was extremely small, the barbecue was full of rubbish and unrelated items and wasn’t suitable for cooking, and there was no hairdryer. At this price, I wouldn’t recommend this accommodation.
