Favela Hostel

A warm, friendly hostel where it's easy to meet other travelers. The staff are always helpful, and the rooms are clean and comfortable.

The host was lovely and helpful. I needed a computer and she let me use hers for several hours. The rooms are great too. Highly recommend.

The owners helped us a lot, and we had a lovely two-night stay. Zagreb generally felt safe, and walking alone wasn't an issue, even for women on their own. Trams run late, and once you know the system and numbers, getting around is easy. The hostel is a little out of the city. From the airport, the shuttle costs 8 Euro per person into town. Ask the driver if it passes nearby; if not, go to the main bus station and take tram 17. I can't remember the stop name, but it's an 8-minute walk from there to the hostel. There's a supermarket nearby, and a local market somewhere behind the hostel that we didn't have time to visit. I think things might be cheaper there than at the supermarket if you're on a tight budget. The building looks plain, but it has what you need. People sleep with some doors open here, which feels cool if you're from a country where you can't do that.

The host and receptionist was kind and helpful, and everything was clean and good enough for a short stay. It's around 15-20 minutes from the airport by taxi. There was a comfy sofa in the lobby and a small garden hangout out back. No breakfast, but there's a vending machine and toaster. I was happy to stay here.
