Lobagola B&B

The homemade breakfast was a treat, especially waking up to the smell of fresh bread. The place feels calm and spotless, with a lovely terrace, and it’s only about a 10-minute walk from the main square while still being very quiet. The staff were welcoming, and the owner had plenty of stories and information about Zagreb, Croatia, the Balkans, and the wider region. The interior design is full of character. Lobagola also has parking if you reserve ahead, which could suit cyclists or motorcyclists.

The other staff seemed friendly, and I skipped breakfast because I had to check out very early. But my last stay left me feeling unwelcome and humiliated, and I’m sure I won’t return. I arrived at 10:25 PM, before the stated 11:00 PM check-in cutoff, but my phone had died, so I rang the bell instead of calling. The owner met me at the door looking angry, walked me to my room, and went on about how they aren’t a hotel, guests must respect check-in times, ringing late was inappropriate, and other guests were complaining. I had already called ahead to say work might delay me, and felt I had to defend myself. Later I heard the bell ring again, and it was only a simple buzz. Compared with the plumbing noise from showers and toilets, it was pleasant. My family works in tourism, so I know guests can be addressed politely or unpleasantly, and this felt unpleasant.

Dubravko has made the place feel warm and homey, with objects from around the world and stories behind them. I felt at home and very welcome. The hospitality felt genuine, and I’d definitely come back. Keep up the good work!

It has a young vibe and feels better than a hostel, though it isn’t a hotel. The concierge was nice and gave us really useful tips. Our Room NR 1 was right by reception, so I’d avoid that one. There’s a parking garage.
