January 2020 will be my eighth visit to Rival Hotel in Cap-Haitian, and I’m looking forward to having some peaceful time there. It’s a beautiful spot, with an ocean view to the north and mountains to the south. The rooms are clean and the beds comfortable. Restaurants and clubs are only 5 to 10 minutes away, but the hotel itself is a great place to unwind by the pool or enjoy a quiet romantic getaway.

It’s a very quiet place, and the hotel is amazingly clean. The employees, all men, are kind and eager to help. It could suit a retirement vacation, but getting there means dealing with a rocky, muddy road, so be careful in heavy rain. You’ll need to drive down to the city for restaurants and entertainment. I’d recommend bringing an SUV, though it doesn’t need to be 4x4. The price could also be 20 usd cheaper.

We didn’t stay, just checked the place out while we were nearby. The rooms are huge, spotless, and all have AC, with prices at a very reasonable $80 usd at the time. There’s a pool and the hotel is right on the beach. Breakfast is included, but there’s no restaurant. Cap has plenty of good places to eat within walking distance, though.

I didn’t stay this time, but I’d definitely consider staying here. It’s beautiful and secluded, and the spacious rooms have decent rates. Quite a few rooms have a decent kitchenette. The one drawback is that there’s no restaurant on site, so food has to be ordered in.
