Elmeny Balaton Hotel

Lake Balaton is right across the road, clearly visible from the balcony, and the hotel has a lovely location. It's a small, friendly, tidy place with great service. The bar and Deep Burger are right next door, and the handmade burgers are magnificent. I stayed with my 8 month old, and David looked after us so well. It seems suited to young people and families alike. We'll definitely return.

We were mostly happy with our three night stay, and for high season the place is very good value. Lake Balaton is about a five minute walk away, with plenty of restaurants nearby. The room and bathroom were clean and tidy, towels were provided, and the beds were comfortable, though the pillows were small and very flat. I missed having a mini fridge for cold water or food that needed chilling. Noise came through the thin walls from the corridor and next door, and the shower temperature sometimes changed suddenly, which wasn't pleasant. We also had to search for the receptionist at both check in and check out, and never found him there. I understand there's no 24 hour reception, but that felt a bit odd. On the plus side, guests get a discount at the really cool burger place next door. Apart from one or two things, we were satisfied. Small annoyances can add up.

The receptionist was very nice, but the room made for a rough night. The bed was right against the wall shared with the next room's TV, so I had a loud television beside my head all night. The walls didn't block other sounds either, and the door was noisy. I was exhausted and could hardly sleep. It would help if the TV's maximum volume could be limited with a code, or if that wall were better soundproofed. The toilet paper dispenser jammed the first time it was used, the bathroom wasn't clean enough, and the room's cabinets and layout were uncomfortable.

Dinner was easy to find at Larios Beach Bar by Deep Burger right nearby, where the service was friendly and the drinks refreshing. The hamburger was delicious. Back at the hotel, the buffet breakfast was a treat: vegetables, cold cuts, soft drinks, and wonderful scrambled eggs and bread rolls. Booking went smoothly, and a lovely receptionist showed me around and explained where things were. My room and bathroom were clean and tidy, and the air conditioning kept things comfortable. I'm very pleased and will visit again. Thank you Élmény Balaton!
