The place had a lovely feel to it, and the service and cleanliness were better than I expected. I’d gladly come back and recommend it to anyone staying nearby.

The rooms have lovely fluffy pillows and comfortable duvets, and I liked the strong shower pressure and the scent of the supplied body wash. The beds are firm, which suits me, and the rooms are clean and tidy even though the entrance feels a little bare. Some rooms have a pleasant balcony, including a small Juliet balcony in a few. This was my second stay while visiting family in Balassagyarmat. There were no coffee makers or kettles in the room, which was a letdown, and I’m not sure how occupied the hotel was since we didn’t see other guests. We did hear neighbors, though. Someone had fairly loud music at 1 a.m. on Monday, then a loud phone call at 6 a.m. Wednesday. Foam earplugs fixed it for me, but I don’t know if reception has any, so bring some if noise bothers you. Otherwise, it’s mostly birdsong, with only the occasional soft sound of a passing car.

The rooms are roomy, clean, and comfortable, and the staff are very accommodating. This family-run place feels welcoming, and the owners make a real effort to see that you have what you need. Highly recommend the Cedrus Hotel.
