Balaton

The setting is beautiful, and the hotel has its own stretch of Lake Balaton. Having breakfast on the terrace is wonderful. The building itself looks old from the outside, though the common areas and some rooms have been renovated. Cleanliness is a real problem. Our room had cobwebs everywhere, and there were plenty of spiders, too. I know that's nature, but if there's a mosquito net, they should be kept out and left on the balcony. The cutlery, plates, and glasses weren't clean either. The bathroom glass waiting upside down on arrival was covered in ash. I took it to reception for another, and the cleaning lady handed me one from the breakfast set, which had been washed but wasn't clean. I took a photo by the window, and you can clearly see someone's mouth print on the rim. After that, I didn't feel like drinking from it at breakfast, even though I took a long time picking one. The staff are mostly young and don't seem to feel responsible for the hotel or its cleanliness.

We only stayed two nights, and I don't think we'll return. The private beach area was the one real plus, and breakfast wasn't bad either. If spiders bother you, be warned: there were quite a lot inside the hotel. The furniture was old and musty. Our bathroom was clean, but the tap was broken and the shower tray cracked. The TV had only three channels, and they were pretty bad.
