The room itself wasn’t the problem. After driving seven hours with our one-and-a-half- and three-and-a-half-year-old boys, we arrived to find the owner shouting at us to control them and take them out. They were excited and running around while we did the paperwork, and had yelled a little, but they hadn’t hit or damaged anything. The next day she accused them of breaking a solar lamp stuck in the ground. There was no damage, but we offered to pay if there had been; she kept yelling anyway, told us to leave, and said she wouldn’t refund us. Being watched constantly on camera felt worrying and, in our view, illegal. We received only an IFA bill. No room could make up for that treatment.

The building was fine and the location is handy, close to the coast. But the railway right beside it makes resting difficult at dawn. What we found unacceptable was how the host treated guests, especially families with small children. On arrival, he spoke loudly and hurtfully to our two-year-old as though he weren’t a person. More than once he came over irritated without even greeting us, and mentioned watching us on camera, which felt worrying and legally questionable. He also made an exaggerated fuss when we touched a small, inexpensive lamp. We asked him to speak to us more kindly, but his tone stayed the same. I wouldn’t recommend this place to families with little kids.

The rooms are comfortable and clean, but the kitchen is really only good for making breakfast. Frying a couple of sausages on the stove took 20-25 minutes. We were pressed to pay the rest of the accommodation fee as soon as we arrived, before we could even catch our breath. I got no invoice for either the stay or breakfast. The woman who runs the place apparently watches the shared areas on camera from home, then the next day speaks rudely to guests if she sees something she dislikes. We’d been talking while the children played in the garden. Her husband and son know how to speak with guests, so they should handle that instead.

The beds were comfortable, and the rooms clean and well equipped. The owner was helpful, though his wife came across as distant and impolite.
